Day four brought just a little bit of relief to me only as a KKR fan…..with the win it seemed like I wasn’t a sucker, supporting some team without a direction! However, seeing them win without Duckworth Lewis method being brought in would have been greater joy….the real game is about playing it and as a fan its the adrenalin that players bring in us mere mortals which gives value for our money and love for the sport…

Taking on from my last blog, Day 2 was much interrupted with rains and D/L was name of the game then. I raised concern about Lalit Modi’s gamble on SA and as I was wiping off the fears of more bad weather as the pessimist in me…it strikes again.

London shines in good April weather while SA reels under bursts of heavy rain….its sod’s law as we are often prone to.

india-election

The learning probably is that India needs to mature as a nation that can withstand the pressure of its General Elections and support national events that make its people upbeat, generate economic activity and keep the one of the best developments in the national sport within her boundaries.

When will they ever learn? The bloody politicians!

Lucky me is on holiday in India, and with just catching up on 3Fs (family, friends and food), there is not much on my itinerary.Hence the opportunity to follow two most watched and discussed topics of the moment – Elections onshore and the IPL off shore!

Newlands, Cape Town

Newlands, Cape Town

While the Great Indian Political Circus has successfully driven the bloodline of Cricket crazy Indians’ newfound format out of the country in its second year – the format itself is struggling to make ends meet under the leadership of the very efficient Lalit Modi. Having decided to go for South Africa instead of England, weather being the main consideration, things started with a stutter when Cape Town woke up with heavy clouds that obscured the Table Mountains in the back drop. that was day 1 and the rain Gods behaving themselves the day concluded in much excitement with last year’s champions the Rajasthan Royals humbled by the under dogs Royal Challengers Bangalore.

As I watch Day 2, rain started the day late with the first game shortened to 12 overs – as if that wasn’t enough, the heavens opened up and stopped play again into the second over of the Delhi Daredevils batting innings. The question is if this will continue through the next few weeks of the games? With the UK’s weather forecast looking better than South Africa, are the odds with the game?

A brave attempt by one and all, to organise something of this magnitude in three weeks may have been more of an uphill task in the UK bureaucracy – South Africa has stood up to the cause!

What is left to see is how it all turns up and with nature’s help it may just well be Lalit’s big win! Fingers crossed , I believe ‘God Helps Those Who Helps Themselves’.
Looks like a good prediction – the game has resumed and Shewag is hitting hard! And OHHHHHHHHHH the Delhi Daredevils have won it by 10 wickets!!!! May not be value for money for the cheering crowds tho’.

On to the next game – my team takes field in under 30 minutes – the Kolkata Knight Riders!

Do you think we have complicated our lives unnecessarily? I think we have. The first things we think of doing are often out of our reach…..the problem starts there…..we then get into a mode where to make things happen we are scheming our next moves. Often ending is frustrations.

Even in our relationships, anything seeming slightly out of place, and we are thinking of the worst…..at work we try to spin the largest yarns to build up our defences against reaching targets…..when all we need to do is get going with the simplest and the most obvious – do our job right and do it well!
Do I sound philosophical or out of tune?

Think of a holiday and we start dreaming of cruises or destinations that are out of bounds – could be too expensive or too long an itinerary to sign off for. Think of a nice meal and we think of a restaurant which ‘everyone’ is ranting about – but that ‘everyone’ isn’t probably in the same boat as I am – and are talking about an over-priced restaurant with miniature portions.

Restaurants With Deals

Or
The boss has been a pain and has been moaning about the month-end results – how can we do it in these times? There is a credit crunch!
Or
Why isn’t the boyfriend being his normal self? Is he seeing someone else? He has been speaking about this new girl at work lately!

You may disagree – and that’s why we are here – it’s my blog and MY opinion.

Which is?

We have turned into a lot of scenically over complicated people. It’s time for a simplistic view of life.

Now tell me if this makes sense:

Restaurant: Look into Toptable. There are at least 75 restaurants in London that are doing deals – honestly the other day three of us went to a Tapas Bar in the City and paid £9.50 each for a good meal (dinner) – it was a 50% discount deal! Look further and some of the big brothers of the culinary trade are screaming for your attention – good food for a dime!

Work: Cummon stop being a slacker, do your job right – think, and be creative. There is someone who definitely needs your services. This is the time to think out of the box! The boss has his pressures as well.

Relationship: There are pressures from all angles. The new girl at work may just be a diversion to the monotony or simply a whiff of fresh air in the beauty department, hence a few mentions. And honestly it must be YOU. Have you been a ‘cow’ and feigned a few headaches recently? Then the guilt is taking over!

Holidays: (My favourite) we all love the exotic destinations but the elements are too many – everyone travels when we want to book – flights are full or too pricey, airports are jammed, things are in a mess. Is there any peace?

Why not try something different? Have you thought of volunteering?

I have.

Here are two ideas to get you thinking:

Lion Cub In Rehab

Lion Cub In Rehab

Work in an animal rehabilitation centre on the fringe of Kruger National Park (South Africa) for 2 weeks. You get to spend your days and nights with the orphaned and injured from the bush game animals including Cheetahs, Lions, Wild Dogs, Hawks and Kites, Hippos, Meerkat and Badgers.

Or

Volunteer for a community project in Columbia, Guatemala, Rajasthan, Madagascar, Ghana teaching life skills in a community school or building schools or facilities for the locals. These unique projects enable volunteers to experience a new culture first-hand, by taking part in voluntary work on the community construction projects.

In both these cases the amount you pay for two weeks is too little for the experience of a life time. What with your three meals, boarding and contribution to the projects taken care of – it is money well spent!

Life can be simple after all………

Disagree?
